In order to accommodate the growing demand of a place for skimo training, Brighton has put together the following uphill traffic policy. The continued ability of us to train at Brighton is dependent on everyone’s adherence to this policy and respecting any on-mountain signs and requests from staff. Please read the sections below, refer to the included maps, and if you have any questions, please email me at chadbrackelsberg@yahoo.com.
Please also remember to be courteous to and thank the Brighton management and staff as they have opened their doors to us when other resorts have simply said, ‘no’ to all uphill traffic. In addition, this policy is a guideline and not an official policy. We are guest at Brighton and any request from a Brighton employee overrides this policy.
Early Morning Training (non-new snow day)
- Crest & Snake Creek Areas: The areas served by the Crest and Snake Creek lifts are closed to uphill traffic as the resort is working to get those areas prepared for the ski day (grooming, control work, etc).
- Great Western: Great Western area is open to uphill traffic up to the top lift shack.
- Milly: Milly is open to uphill traffic to the top lift shack.
Early Morning Snow Day Training
- Crest & Snake Creek Areas: The areas served by the Crest and Snake Creek lifts are closed to uphill traffic as the resort is working to get those areas prepared for the ski day (grooming, control work, etc).
- Great Western: Great Western area is open to uphill traffic up to the top lift shack. If there is control work, this area may be closed lower than the lift shack. In this case, a ‘CLOSED’ sign will be posed facing the uphill traffic. Please obey these signs.
- Milly: Milly is open to uphill traffic only up to the Twin Lakes Dam.
Day Time and Evening Training (after 9AM)
- All areas are open to uphill traffic.
- For your and other skier safety, stay on less populated runs
- Always ascend on the far edge of a run and ensure you are visible to downhilll traffic.
- Ascend in single file.
- If training at night, please wear a headlamp and light colored (reflective if possible) clothing to ensure the downhill traffic can see you.
Parking
- We are Guests, not Customers of Brighton and Parking is one of the biggest concerns of resort management.
- Please do not park in the customer areas (main lot)
- Carpool as much as possible to reduce the space taken up
- If you have multiple cars, park close to one another and in same area to take up as little space as possible.
- Early Mornings
- Milly: park by the church
- Great Western: Park by the dumpsters between the the lift shop and Great Western lift base.
- Snow Days
- Park in the same location as above, but follow any additional instructions given by the plow dirvers. The plow drivers are making every effort to get the lot cleared for the customers. Poorly parked cars can make there job much more difficult.
The maps below helps depict open and closed areas as well as parking area.

Thanks to everyone at Brighton for this! It’s a huge blessing to be able to train on some shark-free avalanche-safe terrain this season. Thanks to everyone involved.

We have had our first complaint around uphill traffic. I received an email about skiers climbing multiple people across the slope and approaching some blind roll-overs. Please be sure to climb single file and stay off to either far edge of the slope when the resort is open.
As a ski tourer, and passholder at Brighton, I’ve seen uphill skiers and snowshoers climbing side by side, climbing along the central third of the trail, climbing up the center of cat tracks, and climbing well away from trailside beneath blind rollovers- numerous times on Great Western terrain. I’ve seen snowshoers walk right up and down the center of trails on Millicent. Seems odd when there’s already plenty of tourable snow in the backcountry.
Glod to hear about this! With touring being the largest growth market in skiing Brighton is wise to gain loyalty amongst this group. cant wait for the p-keg and this will get me out a bit more!
Hello everyone- Just a couple quick notes about Brighton and uphill use. We are opening our doors to the skimo community. Please help us help you. Ascend one at a time, please park in outlined areas, and if you see snow cats on the hill please respect their work. Ski close to the edge and avoid skiing fresh “corduroy” whenever possible. And whatever you do don’t argue with them and send them to this page or it saying it is “Brighton’s Official policy”. Let’s work together and respect gets respect-
Thanks and ski hard-

I moved here a couple of years ago, and I’ve been disappointed that I can’t use skiing / riding as a morning workout. This, however, opens it back up. Looking forward to giving it a try, and seeing how high I can get in an hour or so of climbing!
